Are there Specific Laws and/or Regulations for reality TV Shows

By Amy Nutt

When participants sign on to be a part of a reality TV show, they sign contracts and are then bound by the terms of the contract. If the participants violate the terms of the contract, then they risk being kicked off of the show. This is what binds the participant. However, there are laws and regulations which govern reality TV shows. This may be hard to believe since many reality TV shows seem cutthroat, but contestants are aware of the type of TV show they are taking part in and they agree to such treatment in their contracts because that is what makes the show interesting.

The FCC regulates what we see on TV, but the shows are prohibited from rigging of any kind, exploiting children, and other such things as nudity and language that are not censored. Those are your standard FCC regulations. However, there have been statements that have claimed that the show Survivor is not subject to game show regulations set forth by the FCC.

Such rules set forth by the FCC involve the Prime Time Access Rule and the Financial Interest and Syndication Rules, which has a large effect on game shows. What the first rule does is give total control of a certain time slot to a local station to do what they please and the second rule gives the producers limited ownership of a program after its initial run. However, these rules don't really interest the public. What interests the public are the censorship rules.

Regarding the claim that Survivor is not subject to the game show regulations of the FCC is contradictory to what the show has claimed. The FCC rules are mostly effective in the areas of censorship and making sure that there is no rigging going on although the above applies as well. They say that reality shows do not leave much room to cheat anyway despite what some may believe. If the FCC caught reality shows rigging, the reality shows would be severely fined. If the contestants found out that the shows were being rigged, then the shows would be facing numerous lawsuits.

Lessons were learned many years ago from such shows as Quiz Show where the producers were feeding the questions and the answers to the contestants before they went on the show. If the audience loved a particular contestant, the producers wanted to make sure that contestant stuck around for a while. Once the ratings would fall, the process would start all over again so that the audience would once again fall in love with a particular contestant.

However, when we look at the reality shows of today, we may absolutely enjoy a particular contestant for them to get voted off. That hardly constitutes any type of rigging because the show is risking viewership if a beloved contestant is gone. The FCC regulates how these shows conduct themselves and they make sure that everything is done fairly to the best of their ability because, if the show is found out, the show risks everything, including their reputation. If they risk their reputation, then they lose viewership. When a show loses viewership, they are then taken off of the air and placed into syndication if they're lucky. Some reality shows have been on the air for so long that it would be a shame for such things to happen, but scandal does occur and solutions must be reached. However, sometimes it is the scandal that brings even more viewers to a show than ever before. But if the show is deceiving their viewers, then viewers feel violated.

HNE Castings: How to Prepare for Reality TV Show Auditions

By Amy Nutt

Part of the appeal that has reality TV shows so intriguing is the fact that the characters are true-life people, folks who could be your neighbors or co-workers. This engages the audience in a way that not only allows them to relate to the characters, but also makes them feel as if they too could be a television star by being on one of these shows.

Many people in fact do want to be on a reality television show and would like to know how, when and where they can audition to be on shows like The Biggest Loser, The Bachelor and others. Below are some tips on how to prepare for your reality TV show audition.

Get Started

Several reality shows allow candidates to apply online or by mail. For other shows, you must make a videotape of yourself and send it in. There are many reality shows that require that you audition in person. In order to start preparing for the audition process, you?ll need to find all the details of that process. Start by looking at the TV network Web sites for reality TV show casting information. One of these is Hne Castings

When and Where?

There are many online sources for finding out when and where live auditions are held for reality shows. Some blogs or audition sites list audition schedules for multiple reality shows. If you are interested in a specific show only, for example The Amazing Race, you could go to the Web site of the TV network that the show is on to find audition information. Once you know when and where auditions are, you?ll need to figure out the logistics of being available for and getting to the audition. There may not necessarily be an audition in your home town or city. In this case, you?ll need to arrange travel to the nearest audition site.

Know Your Story

Whether you are applying to be on a reality TV show online, through the mail, or showing up to a live audition, you must prepare by knowing what you will say about yourself. You will need to portray yourself as an interesting person. Start by brainstorming a list of as many different facts about yourself as you can possibly think of. Include places you've live, places you've been, accomplishments you've made, anything at all that makes you interesting. After that, narrow it down to 5-10 interesting tidbits that you can memorize and speak about on demand.

Make for Good Drama

Many of today's reality shows claim they're not casting to fill niches or to create conflict. Despite those claims anyone who has seen more than one episode of any reality show can tell this is not always true. The fact is, reality TV must have some drama in order to be interesting and engaging. Casting people that are likely to create interesting types of conflict ensures this element will be covered. You can use this to your advantage. First off, make sure to keep it real. Don't lie or grossly exaggerate. Think about your opinions and outlooks on controversial matters. Play up certain things about your lifestyle that may clash with that of someone else. Play up certain things about you that make you likely to fill a certain niche.

Confidence is Key

In conclusion, once you have found out all the details about the audition, prepared and memorized your "story", and strategized your drama factor, focus on your confidence. You must come across as someone outgoing who is not afraid to be themselves and be outspoken. If nothing else, focusing on this will give you the greatest chance of being cast on a reality TV show.

Lindsay Lohan ... Her Story

By Dylan Richkards

Lighting up screens at the age of 3, Lindsay should have been informed on the dangers of showbiz life. Ever since Lindsay moved to LA, she seems to be losing control.

Lindsay started out as a Ford model in New York where she was born. After her debut, Lindsay went on the appear in over 60 television commercials. Finally in 1996, she made her first appearance as an "actress" on Another World.

Next on Lindsay list was a remake of the film the Parent Trap in 1998. It wasn't until 5 years later that she appeared in another major film, Freaky Friday. One year later, Lindsay moved to L.A. and things began to fall apart.

Lindsay seems to rub people the wrong way, well when it comes to men anyways. Lindsay's four year feud with Hillary Duff is over Aaron Carter. Also the feud with Ashlee and Jessica Simpson over Wilmer Valderrama dates back to 2004.

Lindsay admitted in 2005 that she was a victim of belemia which caused her to lose a lot of weight. Lindsay was just then releasing "Mean Girls," which took her to the next level.

Lindsay was in two car crashes in 2005, which was apparently caused by the paparazzis. In 2006 Lindsay was told that she was being unprofessional for showing up to work late a couple of times. While back in New York, Lindsay broke her wrist while clubbing with friends.

Lindsay began attending AA meetings in December of 2006 after much criticism. Apparently this didn't take since she was arrested two times on drunk driving charges. She was sentenced to jail for 1 day, a community service order and an 18 month alcohol education program.

Lindsay has been trying to fly under the radar since then. She is now filming "Labor Pains" which is speculated to have a fairly large release. Her next progress hearing is set for January 2009.

The Excellent Entertainment Provided By WWE Divas

By Russell M. Stewart

There cannot be too many compliments that mean more than 'diva'. If a woman is called a diva, she is being called divine, because the root of diva is the Latin 'divus', or divine. It celebrates how talented and outstanding the woman is. Singers, stars, artists are all referred to as divas, and now, so are the beauties of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

Among the sexiest female celebrities in the world, WWE divas are also among the most entertaining athletic performers of the new era. The best known WWE divas of our time include Candice Michelle, Maria Kanellis, Torrie Wilson, Jillian Hall, Melina Perez, Beth Phoenix and Victoria. Intense training is very much a part of their daily lives and they are quite adept at putting on a thrilling and energised show for the audience.

WWE divas were not always the centre of attention. The earlier divas were managers, who earned the complimentary title after several years of service. They were there to provide valet-ringside managerial services for professional male wrestlers, such as Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels and Macho Man Randy Savage. The most notable early-day WWE divas are Miss Elizabeth, Sensational Sherri Martel, Tammy Lynn Sytch (Sunny), Rena Mero (Sable), Terri Runnels and Trish Stratus. The latter two entered the arena as managers and later became pro wrestlers themselves.

Divas have come and gone and it's been rough-and-tumble for them throughout the years. The most famous WWE title for female wrestlers is appropriately named WWE Women's Title. These WWE divas have made women's wrestling so popular that ambitious young contestants flock the annual WWE Diva Search competition with hopes of becoming the next diva.

WWE divas participate in regular wrestling entertainment events, such as Smackdown, Raw, ECW and Pay-Per-View. The wrestling has also taken a more unconventional form, with pudding and gravy bowl matches, lingerie pillow fights and bikini battle royals. These wrestling divas attract many wrestling fans and casual observers, because of their eye-appeal.

Mickie James, one of the toughest female wrestlers, is the WWE Raw Women's Champion. She won the championship on the 14th of April, 2008.

The Raw, SmackDown and ECW are the main three brands promoted by WWE, which is focused on professional wrestling of every type. Pro wrestling is known to be a simulated sport, a combined art containing athletic wrestling and theatrics. WWE holds great importance in the world's sporting arena and is the largest professional wrestling promoter.

Create Your Own ABBA Costumes

By Fred Tellier

Dressing up in costumes is popular with everyone, regardless of age. Young children might want to dress as an animal or ghost for a trick or treat outing. Adults and teens also enjoy costume parties. If you are going to a party in a group, it is a lot of fun to dress up as members of a well-known band. Depending on how many men and women there are in your group and the total number, there are various bands to go for. One great idea is to wear ABBA costumes. You might think it is difficult to get ABBA costumes and go to a fancy dress party as this well-known Swedish band, but it is easier than you might think.

Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus are the male vocal half of ABBA if you plan to go to a party with another guy friend and you are a male. Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstand are the rocking girl couple if you are not able to bring four people to the party.

There are many specialty shops and seamstresses that are willing to make ABBA costumes for you and your friends. If you have money but are low on time, this is the best way to go to find ABBA costumes for you and your group.

However, if time is not an issue, you will find that making your own ABBA costumes is a very rewarding and fun activity. To make your ABBA costumes, you have to know how to make, follow, and sew patterns into clothing. This will represent the type of clothing that ABBA wore. It is also a good idea to find a specific material that matches the bands. You should also measure each person who is going to be dressing up in an ABBA costume so that the costume does not turn out to be too big or too small. ABBA costumes can be quickly thrown together from items that are found in your local stores. You don't have to buy new items that you will never use again. Buying new things is the worst way to make an ABBA costume. It is best to be unique.

Why not check out thrift stores like Goodwill? This will keep your costs low and might lead to some amazing discoveries. Even if you don't find an exact ABBA costume, you might find some old-fashioned clothing which can be adapted. If you can find some suitable bits and pieces, you can buy and wash them then combined them for a great ABBA costume. Alternatively, you might need to dye several piece to make them match, but this is very easy. When you buy items from a thrift store, they are usually only a couple of dollars each. You can feel free to cut them or adjust them to make these items into a complete new costume.

The plain clothes that are worn are very easy to imitate. Sometimes things such as vests and headbands need to be made. The harder costumes are the shiny ones. However, often times there are 70s clothing or disco costume items at thrift shops. It is important to look in different areas rather than just the normal clothing to find what can be made into new clothes. It is also important to look at children's and baby clothes because these things can often be cut and made into new items such as headbands and wrist bands. The colors found there are often the ones that are needed. If not, these things can be dyed or drawn on to make what is needed.

You will need to think about a dye or wig for your hair. ABBA costumes use natural hair colors so a wig might be easier, especially if your hair has been lightened or is porous, meaning a rinse-out dye might not rinse out immediately!

The platform shoes might be the most difficult part of your ABBA costume. You should start your search for ABBA style platform shoes months before the event, if you have that much time to plan. Once you have your ABBA costumes ready, you will definitely have fun and draw lots of admiring glances at the party!
